Att som hemmabryggare framställa sitt eget öl har nu på nytt börjat bli vanligt. Man kan köpa bryggverk för tusentals kronor för att brygga 20 liter öl. Vad som presenteras i boken är bryggning som baseras på trestegshumling. De dyra bryggverken kan då bytas ut mot en 10-literskastrull för några hundralappar. Med Spraymalt och maltextrakt kan man mycket enkelt brygga 20 liter öl där hemma i köket. Med ytterligare en liten investering kan man också mäska sin vört där i hemmet. Metod och lämpliga recept finns i boken. Att brygga öl med svensk humle ger en speciell känsla. I boken beskrivs hur svensk humle kan odlas och användas i hemmabryggeriet. Under Surölsträffen 2023 belönades för första gången ett öl bryggt med trestegshumling och enbart svensk humle med guldmedalj.Fram till 1900-talet var det vanligt att man hemma på gården bryggde sitt eget öl. Under fyrahundra år fram till 1860 var det lag på att odla minst 200 humlekloner på gården, och det var svensk humle som man använde. I mitten av 1600-talet fanns det 3900 registrerade humlegårdar. Då de stora bryggerierna senare etablerade sig i Sverige försvann brygghusen på gårdarna och de svenska humlegårdarna förvildades.
